Transcorp Stock Analysis: Is It Worth Buying in 2026? (My POS Investor View)

Introduction:

If you have been following my 100 Shares Challenge, you know I mostly buy bank shares. But this week, many people in my WhatsApp group asked about Transcorp. The share price moved from N4 to over N15 in 2023 and 2024, and now in 2026 many POS owners are asking, should we buy Transcorp?

I spent 3 days researching Transcorp Plc for you. This is not financial advice, this is my personal research as a small investor from Lekki.

What is Transcorp?

Transnational Corporation Plc (Transcorp) is a big Nigerian company owned partly by Tony Elumelu. They do many businesses:

1. Transcorp Power - They own Ughelli Power Plant and Trans-Afam Power. They generate electricity for Nigeria.

2. Transcorp Hotels - They own Transcorp Hilton Abuja and Transcorp Hotel Calabar.

3. Transcorp Energy - Oil and gas business

So when you buy Transcorp share, you are buying small part of power, hotel, and oil business at once.

Transcorp Share Price History

Let me show you the history I found:

- 2020: N0.79

- 2021: N0.98

- 2022: N1.20

- 2023: N4.40 (grew 300%)

- 2024: It went to N15.50 at one point

- 2025: It came down and stabilized around N8 - N12

- October 2026 (Today): Trading around N13 - N14

Why did it grow so much? Because Transcorp Power became profitable and they listed Transcorp Power Plc separately on NGX in 2024. That made investors excited.

Is Transcorp Profitable in 2026? My Analysis

I checked their latest 2025 full year and 2026 half year results (Q2 2026):

Revenue: Transcorp Group made over N400 billion in 2025, mostly from power business. Power is their biggest money maker.

Profit: They made about N35 billion profit in 2025, better than 2024.

Dividend: In 2023 they paid 5 kobo, in 2024 they paid 10 kobo, in 2025 they paid 15 kobo per share. So dividend is growing small small.

Debt: This is my concern. Power business needs a lot of loan. Their debt is high but they are paying it.

Pros and Cons - Should POS Owners Buy?

PROS - Why It Might Be Worth Buying:

1. Diversification: If you only have bank shares like me (GTCO, UBA, Zenith), buying Transcorp means you also own power and hotel business. If banks have problem, power business can still make money.

2. Power Business Future: Nigeria needs more electricity. Transcorp Power supplies about 15% of Nigeria power. As population grows, power demand will grow.

3. Low Entry Price: Unlike Seplat or Total that is N1,000 per share, Transcorp is N13. With my POS profit of N2,000 daily, I can buy 100 units easily. That is good for small investors like us.

4. Tony Elumelu Effect: Investors trust Tony Elumelu. He has good record with UBA and other companies.

CONS - Why You Should Be Careful:

1. Price Has Already Risen A Lot: If you bought at N1 in 2022, you are lucky. Buying at N13 in 2026 is more risky. The easy 300% gain is gone.

2. Power Business Risk: If government does not pay them for power supply, or gas price goes up, their profit will drop.

3. Low Dividend: 15 kobo dividend on N13 share is very small (about 1.1% dividend yield). Banks pay better - Zenith pays N3 dividend on N38 share (almost 8% yield). So for dividend, banks are better.

4. Volatility: Transcorp price moves up and down very fast. Last month it went from N11 to N14 in one week, then back to N12. If you are new investor, you may panic.

My Personal Decision for Day 16

For my 100 Shares Challenge, I will buy small.

Today, October 13, 2026, I will use N1,300 of my POS profit to buy 100 units of Transcorp at N13.

Why 100 units? Because I want to test it. I will not put all my money in Transcorp. My portfolio will still be 80% banks, 20% Transcorp and other stocks.

My plan: Buy 100 units now, hold for 6 months, see if they pay good dividend in early 2027.

What You Should Do If You Want to Buy

If you want to buy Transcorp in 2026, here is my advice from small investor to small investor:

1. Don't use all your money - Use only 20% of your investing money for Transcorp. Keep 80% in banks.

2. Buy in parts - Don't buy 100 units at once. Buy 20 units today, 20 units next week. If price drops to N11, you can buy cheaper.

3. Have patience - Don't expect to double your money in one month. Hold at least 1 year.

4. Use Bamboo or Trove - Search TRANSCORP on Bamboo, you will see it.

Conclusion: Is It Worth Buying in 2026?

My answer: YES, but with caution and small amount.

If you are POS owner like me with small capital, Transcorp is affordable and gives you exposure to power business. But it should not be your only share. It should be part of your mix.

For Day 16, I am buying 100 units as experiment. I will update you after 30 days if it was good decision.

Disclaimer: I am not a licensed financial adviser. I am a POS business owner in Lekki sharing my personal journey. Please do your own research or talk to your broker before buying. Shares can go up and down.
