Dangote Refinery IPO has been extended. The new closing date is now October 27, 2026.
If you were rushing to buy before October 13, you now have 14 extra days.
I confirmed this from the official IPO website and Punch Newspaper this morning.
Dangote Refinery IPO New Closing Date
According to the official offer website, the IPO which opened on September 14 will now close on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
The extension was approved by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
The old deadline was October 13, 2026.
Key Details of the Offer Remains Same:
- Price: N525 per share
- Minimum: 10 shares (N5,250)
- Total Shares: 4.1 billion shares
- Total Value: N2.15 trillion
- Offer Period: Sept 14 - Oct 27, 2026
Why Did Dangote Extend The IPO?
This is what shocked me.
Aliko Dangote said in an interview at the refinery that they have already gotten 3 to 4 times the amount they wanted to raise.
He said the extension is not about raising more money, but about giving more Africans a chance to own part of the refinery.
The company is now working with Nairobi Securities Exchange and other African exchanges to allow Africans outside Nigeria to participate.
What This Means For Small Investors Starting With N5,000
I started my journey with $1 (N1,500). I know many of you are starting with N5k - N20k.
This extension helps you if:
1. Your investing app verification is still pending
2. You have not completed your N5,250
3. You were confused about whether to buy Transcorp or Dangote first
My personal plan: I will apply for just 10 units (N5,250) before Oct 27. I am not going all-in. This is a long-term investment. The listing date for the refinery is still "To Be Confirmed" so you might not be able to sell next week.
Note: Because it is oversubscribed 4 times, you might not get all the shares you apply for. If you apply for 10, you might get 5. That is called allotment.
Should You Buy Dangote Refinery IPO?
I am not a financial adviser. This is my journey from $1 to 100 shares.
But ask yourself:
- Do you believe Dangote Refinery will still be refining fuel in 10 years? Yes.
- Can you afford to leave N5,250 for 3-5 years? If yes, consider it.
- Are you borrowing money to buy IPO? If yes, DON'T.
I will post my application receipt here once I apply.
For now, my main portfolio is still TRANSCORP which I bought with my $1.
